San Cristóbal de La Laguna is the largest city in Tenerife and the only city in Tenerife declared a World Heritage Site. La Laguna retains much of its traditional origins, adapted to tourism without losing its authenticity.
The historic town was founded in 1497 by Alonso Fernández de Lugo, who chose an inland city to avoid pirate attacks along the coast. Its pedestrian streets are always full of life, with street musicians and loads of taverns, restaurants and bars. Along the coast of La Laguna, the natural pools of Punta del Hidalgo stand out, next to which is a modern lighthouse.
